A person of interest was taken into custody after two people were killed and three others were hurt in a mass shooting at a bar early Sunday morning in Indiana.
The incident happened at Portside Pub in Hammond around 4am. The police were responding to gunshots when they walked in to see 5 people have been shot.
Two of the victims died at the scene. Three victims were transported to a local hospital — two in serious condition and one in unknown condition, but stabilized. The ages of the victims were not released.
According to ABC News, Lake County Coroner’s Office have identified those victims as 59-year-old Lorraine Reyna and 25-year-old Paul Olivares. Both live in Whiting.
Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. said police were simply trying to diffuse a domestic situation.
“Alcohol — it was a domestic situation,” said Mayor McDermott. “Too many guns, a bar open too late — it’s a recipe for disaster.”
A person of interest, Caprice Edward Cashaw, of Merrillville, was taken into custody in after the shooting. Still, police have not confirmed the identity of the person of interest, since no charges have been announced.
