NEW YORK INSTALLS 12-FOOT BLACK WOMAN SCULPTURE IN TIMES SQUARE

A new 12-foot bronze sculpture, Grounded in the Stars by British artist Thomas J. Price, has been unveiled in New York City’s Times Square. Depicting a plus-size Black woman in casual clothing, the artwork challenges traditional ideas of who is represented in public monuments.

Situated at Broadway and 46th Street, the statue stands in contrast to the nearby tributes to historical white male figures, such as Michelangelo’s David. It encourages deeper reflection on the human condition and aims to promote inclusivity and everyday strength.

While some people praise its message of representation, others criticize it as politically motivated. The statue will be on display until June 17, 2025.
