Chris Brown is once again making headlines — and not for his music. The R&B singer was released on a staggering £5 million bail following his arrest in connection to a violent incident that reportedly took place at Tape nightclub in London’s upscale Mayfair district back in February 2023.
According to authorities, Brown, now 36, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw, who alleges that the singer struck him repeatedly with a bottle, then continued to punch and kick him while he was on the ground. The alleged attack was caught on CCTV and has been described by prosecutors as “extremely serious” and unprovoked.
The arrest went down on May 15, 2025, when Brown touched down in Manchester on a private jet and was staying at the Lowry Hotel. Despite the charges, the court is allowing him to move forward with his “Breezy Bowl XX” international tour, which is scheduled to kick off this June, with stops in Europe, the U.S., and Canada.
Brown’s bail conditions are tight. He must:
Reside at a UK address while in the country Surrender his passport (managed by his legal team for travel purposes) Avoid Tape nightclub and any contact with the co-accused, complainant, or witnesses
Notably, his passport will be held by U.S. lawyer Matthew Cayman for the American leg of the tour, then handed back to a UK solicitor afterward.
The case has raised major concerns around celebrity privilege and accountability. While fans remain divided, one thing is clear: Chris Brown’s legal troubles continue to follow him across borders.
