An arrest has been made in the tragic West Side shooting that left 18-year-old Kaleb Williams dead. The incident occurred early Sunday morning on the 5000-block of West Maypole Avenue in Chicago. Kaleb was waiting for a ride home when he and another teen were approached by a vehicle. An argument followed, ending in gunfire.
According to ABC News, Kaleb was fatally shot in the back. The second teen was wounded but survived. Police arrested 35-year-old Ortez Owens just 14 hours later. He now faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery.
Kaleb’s family described him as a kind-hearted young man with dreams of joining the military. While his parents, Nikita and Jeonnie Campbell, are relieved an arrest was made, they say justice won’t ease the pain of losing their son.
Our prayers are with Kaleb’s family.
