Outrage continues to grow after a student was reportedly heard yelling a racial slur at a Black basketball player during a free throw attempt at Goodrich High School in Goodrich, Michigan, according to WNEM. Witnesses say the student shouted the N-word mid-shot, a move many described as an attempt to distract the player and show disrespect during the game.

The incident quickly spread across social media, with students, parents, and community members expressing frustration and calling the behavior unacceptable. Many have emphasized that high school sports should remain spaces that promote respect, sportsmanship, and inclusion rather than hostility or discrimination.

School officials said they are actively investigating the incident using security footage, game recordings, and witness statements. While administrators have not yet released specific disciplinary actions, they stated that hate speech and harassment are taken seriously under school conduct policies.

The incident has added to the ongoing national conversation about racism in youth sports and how schools should respond when hate speech occurs in competitive environments. Many are now waiting to see what actions the school district will take moving forward.
