A professional cornhole player known for his inspiring story is now facing murder charges after authorities say he fatally shot a friend during an argument inside a vehicle, according to CBS Mornings.
Police say Dayton James Webber, 27, a quadruple amputee who previously competed in the American Cornhole League, allegedly shot Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, during a heated argument while driving Sunday night in La Plata, Maryland.
According to investigators, two passengers were sitting in the back seat at the time of the shooting. After the gunfire, Webber allegedly pulled over and asked them to help remove the victim from the car, but they refused and ran from the scene. Authorities say Webber then drove away with the victim still inside the vehicle.
About two hours later, the victim’s body was discovered in a yard roughly 10 miles away. Police later tracked Webber to a hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was taken into custody.
Webber, who lost all four limbs as an infant due to a severe infection, had gained attention in the sports world for overcoming major challenges and competing at a high level. He is now awaiting extradition and is expected to face multiple charges, including murder, as the investigation continues.
