Q&A WITH LIL M.U (May 2025)
- When you started your music journey, what was your confidence level?
- My confidence level was already pretty high. I do have moments when I need to remind myself, but for the most part, I feel like I’m always at the top, like on Kanye’s level, for real.
- Who was your biggest inspiration while growing up?
- Ciara and Missy Elliott were definitely my biggest inspirations.
- Do you ever want to give up during the process?
- Not really, since it just started for me.
- What’s something you feel you need to work on as an artist?
- I would definitely say I need to step up my knowledge of the business side of music. You can’t let yourself get finessed. I also need to work on my communication skills.
- At what point did you decide to take your musical career seriously?
- I decided to take it seriously when I dropped my first song and everyone liked it, which was definitely in October.
- Where do you see yourself in the future?
- I see myself in movies, still being successful, creating more music, branching out, and being world-renowned.
- Would you like to secure a record deal or remain independent, and why?
- It depends on the deal. Right now, I definitely want to remain independent because I want to keep my money to myself. I know that many deals aren’t really good deals.
- What was the process of creating your last project like?
- It was fun and really easy because music is just enjoyable for me right now. It’s all about making stuff that feels good, so the process was easy.
- What are your favorite visuals that you have created, and why do you like them?
- I’m not sure which is my favorite. Shout out to my videographer, who always finds new things to do, making each project better. I think “On Top Of Cars” is going to be my best one.
- What was a highlight moment in your career that encouraged you to pursue music?
- My first song and all the support I received from it. The fact that so many people liked the song was a pivotal moment for me.
- Do you write your music?
- Yes, I do.
- Do you think having a ghostwriter is beneficial for artists?
- Yes, it can be beneficial. I won’t lie; there are times when I struggle with writing. Having someone help me could be useful since I’m still new at it, and my writing isn’t always the best.
- Would you be interested in collaborating with other artists? If so, who?
- Yes, I would definitely like to collaborate. I’d love to work with artists like Lay Banks or big names, maybe even Chris Brown.
- Are there any specific Chicago artists you would like to work with?
- I think there are many I’d collaborate with if they were open to it.
- What is your favorite thing about being an artist?
- I would say it’s seeing the impact I have on the youth. The support I receive from them really motivates me.
- What’s an exclusive fun fact about you?
- Most people don’t know that I’ve been dancing since I was three and that I DJ now. I started DJing before I began rapping, and I’ve been doing it for almost two years.
- What is a guilty pleasure of yours?
- I’m not sure if I have an addiction to anything that I shouldn’t be doing.
- What never fails to make you smile?
- People, sometimes. If you have good energy, you’ll make me smile.
