CHICAGO- The search for 26-year-old Ralzphelle Howard ended in heartbreak along the Little Calumet River near 130th and Indiana Avenue after a tragic early Tuesday SUV crash that also claimed the life of 24-year-old Trumayne Sanders.

The tragedy began around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when a speeding SUV carrying five people lost control, smashed through a street barrier, and plunged into the river.

While three occupants managed to swim to safety, 24-year-old passenger Trumayne Sanders was pulled from the water and later died at the hospital.

Howard remained missing.

Local community members Jay Cool and Choppa Goozman took matters into their own hands.

Refusing to give up, the two men bravely entered the water to conduct an independent search along the riverbank.

Roughly half a block from where the vehicle was recovered, the duo located Howard’s body.

Community members continue to honor Jay Cool and Choppa Goozman for their selfless courage, demanding full credit go to the two men who risked their lives to bring her home.
