A MOTHER’S SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH

A Mississippi mother, Bettersten Wade, is seeking answers and justice in the tragic case of her son, Dexter Wade. Her ordeal began when she last saw Dexter on March 5, and he subsequently went missing. After reporting his disappearance to the Jackson Police Department on March 14, Bettersten provided them with photos of her son, requesting they share his image on TV. Despite her continued efforts to obtain information and updates, the police consistently claimed to have no knowledge of his whereabouts.

Tragically, Bettersten later discovered that Dexter had been fatally struck by an off-duty police officer’s SUV while crossing Interstate 55, just an hour after he left her home on March 5. Dexter lacked identification but had a prescription pill bottle in his pocket. Hinds County coroner investigator LaGrand Elliott confirmed Dexter’s identity and next-of-kin on March 9 but failed to contact Bettersten. This was not the first time Bettersten had a troubling experience with the Jackson Police, as in 2019, her brother was killed during an arrest by former Jackson officer Anthony Fox. Although Fox was convicted of manslaughter, he is currently appealing the verdict. Given this history, Bettersten wonders if her son’s tragic death may be connected to her previous allegations against the police, speculating whether there might be a vendetta involved.
