BODYCAM VIDEO SHOWS CHICAGO POLICE FATALLY SHOOTING A MAN ARMED WITH A KNIFE

Community members gathered outside the Little Village building on Tuesday evening, where Timothy Glaze was shot and killed by police last month. For several weeks, they have been demanding answers and accountability from the Chicago Police Department, asserting that officers could have opted for non-lethal measures, as Glaze was undergoing a mental health crisis.

As Tuesday night’s call for justice intensified, tensions arose among community organizations. Some insisted on the need for improved mental health responders, while others, including the group Dare to Struggle, called for criminal charges to be brought against the officers involved in Glaze’s death. This occurred while CPD was holding a meeting with residents inside the building.

These conflicting demands coincided with the release of police body camera footage from the encounter on January 3. The footage starts with officers entering the lobby of Albany Terrace Apartments and conversing with a security guard once inside. This followed frantic calls from Glaze’s girlfriend just after 2 a.m. on January 3. The video shows officers taking the elevator directly to the apartment, quickly retreating from what they identified as Glaze. In a statement released on Tuesday, Glaze’s family expressed their thoughts.
