Cam’ron has taken legal action against J. Cole, filing a lawsuit for $500,000 over their collaboration on the 2024 track “Ready ’24.” The dispute centers not just on money, but on a matter Cam’ron says is bigger than hip-hop: keeping your word.
According to Cam’ron, he recorded a verse and contributed lyrics to the track back in 2022, under a verbal agreement with Cole. The understanding was that Cole would “return the favor” — either by appearing on a Cam’ron song or doing an interview on Cam’s podcast, Talk With Flee. But Cam says Cole never followed through.
“It’s not about the money,” Cam’ron told fans on his podcast. “Being a man is keeping your word. If you say something multiple times, you gotta follow through.”
The lawsuit seeks to declare Cam’ron a co-author of the song, demand a full accounting of royalties, and recover at least $500,000 he believes he’s owed. Cam frames the legal battle as a matter of honor and respect, insisting that agreements in hip-hop — even verbal ones — should be honored.
Filed in federal court in New York City, the suit names J. Cole’s company Cole World Inc. and initially Universal Music Group. J. Cole has yet to respond publicly to the claims.
