Authorities reported that the alleged theft occurred between January 21 and 22. On January 23, while canvassing a neighborhood for surveillance footage, police spotted a black Chevy Malibu that matched the description provided by witnesses.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver fled but lost control of the vehicle and ran away on foot. According to Livonia police, Walik-Rasool was located shortly thereafter in a nearby dumpster. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 27.
