It was just another Saturday night in the city — until chaos broke out at a CTA station on the West Side. Around 11:14 p.m., police say a woman was stabbed while sitting on a bench at the train platform in the 400 block of South Halsted.
According to CPD, the suspect walked the platform holding a large knife before approaching the woman and attacking her without warning. She suffered a deep cut to her chest before the man fled north on Morgan Street.

Detectives are now searching for the suspect — described as a Black man, around 6 feet tall, between 160 and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a pink beanie, gray hoodie, orange sweater, light blue jeans, white shoes, and carrying a gray book bag.
Incidents like this shake Chicago’s sense of safety, especially for those who depend on public transit late at night. It’s a reminder that even in familiar spaces — our city streets, train platforms, daily routes — danger can appear out of nowhere.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. Because in a city as big and beautiful as Chicago, no one should fear sitting on a bench waiting to get home.
