CHICAGO MAN ARRESTED IN UPS DRIVER SHOOTING — VICTIM WAS HIS FRIEND

A Chicago man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a UPS driver on the city’s South Side, and a judge has ordered that he remain in jail as the case moves forward, according to CBS Chicago.

Authorities say 37-year-old Xavier Wilson is facing first-degree murder charges in the death of Michael Hunter, 36, a UPS driver who was found shot in the head in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

Police said Hunter was discovered in the early morning hours of March 22 in the 8000 block of South Hermitage Avenue, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Hunter had been trying to track down his stolen delivery truck when the shooting occurred. His family later located the truck about three miles away from where he was killed.

Sources indicate that Hunter and Wilson were known to each other and considered friends, making the tragedy even more devastating for those who knew them. The exact motive behind the shooting has not yet been publicly released.

Hunter’s loved ones have described him as a dedicated father, fiancé, and provider who meant everything to his family. He was a father of three and had recently purchased a home with his fiancée, marking what should have been a new chapter in his life.

Family members previously gathered at the scene demanding justice and had offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

During a recent court appearance, prosecutors requested that Wilson remain in custody while awaiting trial, citing the seriousness of the charges. A judge agreed, ordering that he be held without release as the case proceeds through the court system.

The loss of Hunter has left a deep impact on his family, friends, and coworkers, many of whom are still searching for answers in a case that highlights the devastating consequences of violence—especially when it involves people who once shared a bond.
