The “Big Swerv” experience was a listening party for one of Chicago’s most prominent stars. G-Herbo held a private listening party for his supporters and the media in Chicago, just hours after his album “Big Swerv” hit #1 on the Apple charts.
On September 6th, 2024, we were hyped to attend the “Big Swerv” listening party at “Just Don” located at 170 N Sangamon. The moment we stepped in, the security guard gave us a warm welcome. We got our hands on the tickets for the “Smoke Bus,” and it was so cool – it came with a 93 Boyz pre-roll, a sticker with the quote “Social Equality SmokeHouse,” a 93 Boyz lighter, and a seat on the bus with snacks and water to enjoy. The whole vibe was set right at the start when DJ BMan kicked things off with an excellent music set that included tracks from “Big Swerv,” the album. It was indeed a night to remember!
The Licking really outdid themselves with the spread – from jerk and chicken Alfredo to an array of delicious flavored chicken wings. Let’s not forget the three signature drinks inspired by G-Herbo: “Candyman,” “Big Swerv,” and “Drunk AF.” We also enjoyed a Photobooth experience where we took home cool pics and boomerangs from DjLuxBooth.
The event drew quite the crowd with big names like Chance the Rapper, Star Bandz, Og Stevo, King Pinrue, Mello Buckz, Ozone, Power 92’s own “Midday girlfriend” Money Maha, Dj Pharris, Dj MilTicket, Dj WillTheThrill, WhatsTheWord, Mikkey Halsted, Crane’s TV, Steve Exclusive, and many others showing up to show their support!
Hot Rod from WGCI kicked off his interview with G-Herbo by diving into the artist’s personal growth and journey as Herbert Wright. G-Herbo opened up about his family, his unwavering supporters, and even shared that his firstborn son, Yosohn, aspires to be a rapper just like him. It’s truly inspiring to see the impact G-Herbo has, not just on his fans, but also on his own family.
He penned a heartfelt message about how his personal growth led to the making of Big Swerv the album. He stated that, “This album to me is like…. coming from Chicago, we have to overcome so many obstacles. It takes so much for us to actually strive, and do better and reach our goals and accomplish things that we always wanted to accomplish. So Big Swerv to me is living in that, & being able enjoy the fruits of my labor by not having to always feel like I’m battling depression. This is one of the albums where I just wanna have fun and act like a 💫.
G Herbo concluded the night by personally engaging with and capturing photos with his guests, making it one of the most memorable listening parties we’ve experienced. Thank you, G Herbo, for your significant contribution to Chicago culture and congratulations on “Big Swerv”.
