Police in West Warwick are investigating after a disturbing viral video surfaced online showing a person walking through town wearing what appeared to be a white robe and pointed hood resembling attire historically associated with the Ku Klux Klan.
According to NBC 10 WJAR, the incident happened during the early morning hours when the individual was spotted walking along a street in the quiet Rhode Island community. Residents who captured the footage said they were driving through the area when they noticed the person dressed in the unusual outfit. Shocked and unsettled by the sight, they recorded the encounter and quickly left the area.
Police confirmed that nearby surveillance cameras also captured images of the person walking alone. After the video began circulating on social media, it quickly gained attention nationwide, sparking concern and outrage from viewers who recognized the historical symbolism connected to the clothing.
Officials in West Warwick said they are actively working to identify the individual and determine their intent.
