UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP SET TO PULL MUSIC CATALOG FROM TIK TOK AFTER FAILING TO REACH AGREEMENT

UMG, the world’s biggest music company, says they will remove their artists’ music from TikTok this Wednesday when their contract expires after failing to reach a new agreement with the platform.

They have failed to reach an agreement on fair compensation and AI protections.

Unfortunately that means Tik Tokers will not be able to use songs from artists like J. Cole, Drake, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Ye, Rihanna, SZA and a lot more.

UMG reveals the main reasons that they are pulling is because they didn’t agree to appropriate compensation for artists and songwriters, protecting human artists from the harmful effects of AI and online safety for TikTok’s users.

Does UMG hold enough leverage over Tik Tok for the platform not to be successful moving forward?
