The Robbins CalPark Eagles, a longtime youth football team in south suburban Illinois, is reeling after over $12,000 worth of gear was stolen from their storage container.
The theft, which included about 60 helmets, shoulder pads, and training equipment, comes just weeks before the season starts. The team serves nearly 300 kids aged 6 to 13 and has been a community staple for over 40 years.
Team president Glenn Hampton says police are reviewing surveillance footage. In the meantime, a GoFundMe has been launched to replace the stolen equipment.
Despite the loss, the team remains hopeful they’ll be ready to play this season.
