CONNECTICUT TOURIST SHOT NEAR AMC THEATRE IN CHICAGO

A woman who was visiting Chicago was hospitalized after being shot while strolling with her son downtown on Sunday evening. The 46-year-old woman, who had traveled from Connecticut, was struck by a stray bullet in her arm near the intersection of Illinois and Columbus in the Streeterville neighborhood just after 8 p.m. This incident has heightened concerns about large gatherings of teenagers occurring outside a nearby AMC movie theater.

As reported by ABC 7 News, a large group of teens was being removed from the AMC on Illinois Street on Sunday evening when one of them pulled a gun from his backpack and fired five to six shots. According to a police report that was obtained by the ABC7 I-Team, the woman and her son were waiting for the light to change when she was hit. The shooting is increasing worries regarding safety in the area.

There is a curfew of 10 p.m. in Streeterville for individuals aged 18 and under, but the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on the weekend. This has led some residents to avoid walking on that block completely. Police have stated that there have been no arrests made in connection with the shooting. Hopkins mentioned that the victim has now been released from the hospital, and there is an increased police presence in the region.

He also indicated that he has suggested legislation to shift the 10 p.m. curfew to 9 p.m.
