Morehouse College opened its new multimedia center on Wednesday, September 23, giving students a place to build the skills needed to produce stories across today’s media platforms. The facility was developed with support from Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand.
Inside, students have access to a production studio, editing bays and equipment valued at about $250,000, according to theGrio’s report. The center is designed for work ranging from podcasts and films to sports broadcasts, with guidance from experienced content creators.
The opening builds on an earlier Jordan Brand investment in Morehouse. In 2021, the brand committed more than $1 million toward scholarships and programs for students studying journalism and sports-related subjects. Morehouse launched its journalism major the following year.
For students who want to cover sports, culture and their communities, the center offers room to practice the work while they are still in school. Faculty members will also be able to use the space to digitize research and share it with wider audiences, according to the report.
