DEATH OF FORT HOOD SOLDIER WHO COMPLAINED OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT RULED SUICIDE

Just 3 years after the murder of Vanessa Guillen, Fort Hood has once again made headlines for another death on their base.

Pvt. Ana Basaldua Ruiz was pronounced dead Monday being at Fort Hood. The 21 year old served for 15 months as a combat engineer.

Last month, she told her mother that she had been sexually assaulted by someone with higher rank and harassed by others while serving. The family told ABC News that they had offered to pick her up.

Army Criminal Investigation Division officials have confirmed that “no foul play is evident” in Basalduaruiz’s death, which remains under investigation, Fort Hood said in a statement Thursday evening.

KWTX10 reported that those responsible at the army post attributed the death, preliminary, to a suicide. Relatives of the soldier who spoke with Telemundo said they were also told their loved one’s death appeared to be a suicide, but very little information had been provided.

Despite the latest update from the Army, Lucy Del Gaudio, a spokesperson for Basalduaruiz’ family, told ABC News that the family is still mostly in the dark regarding the details surrounding Basalduaruiz’ death.
